On The Turntable: Nick Waterhouse “Holly”

A few months back a friend of mine suggested that I listen to a couple tracks by a singer, guitarist & songwriter by the name of Nick Waterhouse.

After the first two tracks I knew this is what I had been looking for.

As a teenager in the Orange County garage scene, Nick had opened up for artists such as Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin. His music has the perfect mix of vintage 50’s and 60’s sounds with a contemporary garage/soul feel. The music reminded me a bit of one of my musical idols from my home state, the recently deceased Nick Curran. If your a fan of Curran, Chris Isaak or Amy Winehouse, take a listen to these 3 tracks from his 2014 sophomore album “Holly”.

  • Nick Waterhouse also produced the excellent debut album by the Allah-Las. He has some serious talent as that album sounds like sunshine and summer.
