VIDEO PREMIERE – Proto Idiot “I Like To Think” (Third Uncle Records)

Proto Idiot (Andrew Anderson, Callum Darley and Michael Seal) are an arty garage punk trio based in Manchester. They have been churning out quality LP’s every couple of years on labels like Trouble in Mind and Slovenly. They have a new LP entitled Find Out For Themselves, coming out in July on the Indianapolis based label Third Uncle Records.

We got a chance to chat with Andrew Anderson about the concept behind the brand new song and video for the snappy and elastic sounding “I Like To Think”. He explains:

“There are lots of songs about relationships, adventures, books, films, even sleeping…but not so many about thinking. This seems like an oversight, because most of us spend most of our time thinking (with some obvious exceptions). So to redress this we wrote an ode to the fun of thinking. Give it a listen and have yourself a nice think about afterwards, if you can spare the time.

As for the video, normally we just make the music and then leave it at that, but this time it I decided to make all the other bits that go with the music as well – like the video. It stars band heartthrob Callum, who falls asleep while reading and goes on a journey of extreme thinking. Only our not-so-smart music can cure him in the end.

Animating this was a bit tricky as I can’t draw, and you have to make lots and lots of pictures even for a short animation like this. But it was worth it in the end. Expect to see more poorly drawn animations from us in the future.”
