If you haven’t heard the original, a capella, version of Hit the Road Jack, sung by its writer, Percy Mayfield, you’re going to want to listen to it now.
This brings me to the video of the day, Percy Mayfield singing his hit in his home in 1984. A man I can’t identify plays the piano and Percy sings while wandering through his home, not missing a beat as he fixes himself a White Russian in the kitchen midway through the song. Could there be anything cooler than that? The video reminds us that Percy passed away the year the video was taken, too soon, but he certainly looks like he was enjoying himself in his twilight days.
