When I heard that Leonard Cohen had died late Thursday/early Friday, I was saddened but not shocked (he was born in 1934, a year before Elvis Presley). Mostly I felt an intense sense of loss.
Cohen was more than just a singer-songwriter, he was also a published author (Beautiful Losers-1966 among others) and a poet of great acclaim. He can be put in the same conversations with Dylan, Waits, Ginsberg, L.Reed and J.Mitchell. The song below has always been a favorite of mine, telling the story of a love triangle that might or might not be in his mind, but no less causes him great pain and guilt. Leonard Cohen is gone now but he leaves us with a treasure trove of both musical and written gems, waiting for us to discover.
