Velveteen Rabbit – “I Wanna Be Your Woman” (HoZac Records) – PREMIERE

Velveteen Rabbit formed after the demise of NYC power pop band The Jeanies. I’ve been sitting with this Velveteen Rabbit 7″ for about a week now, and while at first I was ready to call it some straight up Roxy Rollin’, good-time Glycerine Queen & Hot Love action for the gods (which it is), there is an element of this that is all Wayne County-inspired junkshop glam, boogie ‘n’ sleaze. There’s some Brett Smiley infatuation going on here, and a strong wink and nod to Suzi Quatro’s version of “I Wanna Be Your Man”. There’s a pop sheen to this debauched glam that County began performing in the 60’s, and Chapman and Chinn polished up into massive hits for the likes of Quatro, Mud, and The Sweet. “I Wanna Be Your Woman” is giving me all of this, and I highly recommend it.

RIYL: The Jeanies, Brett Smiley, Milk N Cookies, Savoy Motel, 70s Kinks, First Base, Shoes, Pinball Summer soundtrack
