TOO BROKE FOR BANDCAMP is a new column I’m doing where I compile some noteworthy releases on bandcamp that are either FREE (name your price), or VERY VERY CHEAP (nothing over a buck or two). It’s good praxis to pay something if you have it and want to support the artist. Artists labor is not free!☭ Sometimes we are simply too damn broke. That’s okay! In this case make sure to sign up for the mailing list when you download, and consider sharing on social media! It’s also beneficial for an artist to have their release pop up on your bandcamp download page for other people to discover. If the artist has other releases that are not free, maybe you’ll purchase those at some point as well.

Japanes band M.A.Z.E. have a new record on on Lumpy Records and it is exceptionally good. This song reminds me a bit of SUBURABN LAWNS and the tape covers ground from weird garage punk to post punk. Great femme vox. Highest recommendation.

COLLATE “MATERIAL INSPECTION” (Name Your Price)
COLLATE are one of the best bands going right now in Portland. I’ve sang their praises before, but now you can download their demo tape, name your own price! They know their way around those repetitive & non-obvious grooves with guitar angularity, off-kilter melodies and rhythms, and shouty bits interspersed with dry, talk-sung deadpan. It’s also downright catchy. I also filmed a vid of them at Speck’s Records in Portland that i’ll post here too!
