Tina Turner released a country album (Tina Turns the Country On) in 1974, and I don’t know if it’s cool to love it, but I do.
The record, which is full of covers of county greats from Dolly to Kristofferson, is surprisingly Tina’s first full length solo album. Although she’d spent the previous decade releasing a ton of singles with her dirtbag husband, this was the first time she went into the studio and came out with an album with only her name on it.
Tina Turns the Country On (what a sweet double entendre) is a fun album, and you can easily find the whole thing online to listen to.
