Those pretty Wrongs did a show last night at The Basement here in Nashville and I got to see the magic. I was introduced to their music by a fellow 50thirdand3rder and was thrilled to get to go and see them play. Those Pretty Wrongs are duo Jody Stephens and Luther Russell. Jody Stephens is the original drummer to the band Big Star and Luther Russell of the Freewheelers. The two started singing together while recording in Memphis for a documentary about Big Star.
The show last night was very chill. Just Stephens and Russell, sitting on stools in a basement surrounded by fans of all ages. Russell played the guitar as Stephens sang the songs. They sang songs scheduled for their new LP with Burger Records, due out in January and were able to sing through the entire sequence. The 7″ single is out now, “Fool of Myself” with “Lucky Guy”. Some of the songs they had never even sang together live, which I found pretty remarkable because I wouldn’t have known. Stephens being in Memphis and Russell in his hometown of Los Angeles, they talk and write mostly over the phone. And who says long-distant relationships never work!?
