This Day In Rock History: Rosie & the Originals – “Angel Baby”

January 23rd,1961

On this date “Angel Baby” by Rosie & the Originals goes to #5 on the Billboard charts. Singer Rosie Hamlin was only 15 years old when the song was recorded on a two track machine. When they were unable to find a label to distribute the song, the group convinced a San Diego department store to play the song in the record department. This led to the band being signed by Highland Records. On the R&B charts, “Angel Baby” also peaked at #5 and remained on that chart for eight weeks.
