…with The Knights of Trash and Hong Kong Banana!
Live, loud, and outta control, The Sellwoods put on a killer show the other night at their quarterly “Garage Punk Hootenanny” at Twilight Café and Bar. The Portland-based foursome’s sound is delightfully twisted 60s cool with influences ranging from Screaming Lord Sutch and The Mummies to Bo Diddley and The Ramones. The Blind Baron, Viking, the lovely Baroness and Miss Kitka lead the way through the kitschy world of Sellwood City and through a rowdy set-list of all the coolest garage rock obscurities. I was so happy to finally catch The Sellwoods live since had I missed their set at Nuggets Night when I had to turn back around and go home to get my weekend pass – d’oh!

Meet The Sellwoods: The Blind Baron (Matt Diehl) on guitar/vocals, Viking! on bass/vocals The Baroness (Melissa Rose) on drums/vocals, and Miss Kitka (Rebecca June Coryell from The Mean Reds) on Howard Organ/vocals.
Here are some little clips I shot for 50thirdand3rd.com’s Instagram. Be sure to follow our Instagram, by the way!

I was also stoked about seeing Thee Milkshakes cover band The Knights of Trash. Fresh from the Burger Boogaloo, I’d recently caught a glimpse of them on Youtube and I was down to get my Medway on. Led by dynamic lead singer Rob Splinter, jumping, screaming, leaping off stage and running into the crowd, these showmen killed it with one of the liveliest performances I’ve seen since The Woggles at Nuggets Night.

The Knights of Trash: Rob Splinter (Lead Vocals,Guitar) Zack Static (Guitar, Vocals) Jamie Jaspers (Bass, Vocals) Michael G. Waugh (Drums, Vocals)

Full disclosure, I didn’t catch Hong Kong Banana’s full set, but they rock and their lead guitarist’s tone is like buddah! Hope to catch them again, soon!
