Album of the Week: Teenage Head – Fun Comes Fast

Teenage Head are arguably the greatest Canadian punk band ever. Actually there is no argument, they are.

Formed in Hamilton, Ontario in 1976, The Head actually weren’t really punk, they wore makeup and wore their hair long as a nod to Bowie, Iggy and The Sweet and they borrowed more from Chuck Berry, The Monkees and Rockabilly than what was happening in New York.

But if you were a teenager in Canada in 1979 when their debut came out The Head were hard to ignore. Rebellious, sneering and full of attitude they were the perfect party band.

Unfortunately they were also the victims of timing and mismanagement and never made it big in the US although they remain legends in Canada.

Vocalist Frankie Venom passed away in 2008, but The Head continue to tour with the excellent Dave Rave filling in on vocals.

Fun Comes Fast” celebrates The Head’s 40th anniversary with 20 of their classics remastered and available on double pink vinyl. It’s on my Christmas list, put it on yours!

Gord Lewis – guitar
Steve Mahon – bass
Dave Rave – vocals
Gene Champagne – drums
