In the music business, there’s nothing more insulting than being deemed a novelty. A band made up of all family members could be considered a novelty as well as an all-female group. Even being female is enough to be unfairly marketed! What kind of chance does a band have in the industry if they’re all 3? Stonefield is a project that’s turning the tables on that stereotype. Enter their brand new Greenway Records 7″, Changes/Sister.
Proving you’re greater than a stereotype is easy when you bring it!
Stonefield is made up of four sisters from Australia. Amy, Hannah, Sarah, and Holy have been working on music in their backyard shed since grade school. The result is the psychedelic-flavored alternative rock that’s equal parts Veruca Salt and Steppenwolf! Instead of a novelty trope, the sisters use their upbringing to strengthen their musical craft. Rigorous touring has torn many bands apart, but it’s difficult to do the same damage with a family.

After two albums and countless tours, Stonefield are ready to take over the world!
With the experience of thousands of shows and a few albums, Stonefield have proved to be one of the most promising bands in the psychedelic rock genre. With only a mere two songs, the Greenway Records 7″ is the perfect sampler of what Stonefield are capable of.
“Changes” combines the psyche vibe with a driving rock beat that reminds me of a slightly darker version of Tame Impala. Instead of getting lost in reverb and effects, the emphasis is clear and straight forward. The B-side “Sister” opens things up a little more by adding some Led Zeppelin-inspired elements. Clearly, they’re a band that refuses to lose what makes them special when experimenting new sounds.

As with most Greenway Records releases, Changes/Sister is available in very limited numbers. 200 white and purple split, and 200 white and purple splatter. Being this is Stonefield first vinyl release here in the US, its safe to say this will be a sought-after collecter’s item in no time!
Stonefield is one of the bands to keep an eye on. I have a feeling they will be breaking into the mainstream any second and headlining the major festivals. When that happens, the masses will be frantically looking for the best place to start their listening journey. Changes/Sister will no doubt be that release.
