Stomp’n’Grind Garage Rock, Garage Punk, Surf, Rhythm and Blues, Meet….The Routes

the routes

The Routes are fantastic, this is what’s right with music in 2014. Garage Rock at its best, The Routes are the bomb, if you don’t love the noise they make we have a problem understanding what the definition of cool is or ought to be. This Band is so good and so real that you have to give them their due. Enough from me, Meet The Routes, listen to their tunes , tell your friends about them and you hip cat DJs’ out there….add The Routes to your playlist.

Hi our name is….

The Routes

People say we sound like…..

Pretty Things, Downliners Sect, Yardbirds, painfully trebley, Link Wray, shit, Dick Dale, we have too much reverb on the guitar, Teenage Shutdown Back From The Grave blah blah blah… but mostly The Routes.

We are…
Chris Jack, Yuichiro Tomishige, Kensaku Muronaka

We are originally from…..
Chris: Born in Kirkcaldy (Fife, Scotland) grew up in Essex (UK).
Yuichiro: Fukuoka, Japan
Kensaku: Yamaguchi, Japan

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??

The Seeds, 13th Floor Elevators, Pretty Things, Link Wray, Cramps, Lemon Drops, Downliners Sect, Kinks, Thee Headcoats

The first time we met was…..

Yuichiro is drummer number 4, and Kensaku is bass player number 11. I first met Yuichiro briefly through a friend. Yuichiro brought Kensaku in, when bass player number 10 got too busy to do the band. Yuichiro and Kensaku have played in bands together for about 8 years.

We knew we were going to be a Band…

Errrm… I needed to get out of the house.

Books we recommend …
Knights Of Fuzz
A Dictionary Of Basic Japanese Grammar
Electric Guitars The Illustrated Encyclopedia
Bez – Freaky Dancin’: Me and the Mondays

Our craziest gig ever was….

I think all the gigs we played in Europe on our last tour were crazy for us. Just to play in front of decent lively crowds. We play where we live, and 4 people might come and see us if we’re lucky (and then they’ll give us their advice on how we should try to sound).

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….

I think I’d head for about 1967, swinging London. Yardbirds, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd…

Growing up ,at home we listened to…..

Hmmm… My brother had Black Sabbath Greatest Hits, AC/DC, Iron Maiden and some Kiss LPs (we’re talking 1979 here). My mum had the standard array of Beatles and Stones records. My dad had a lot of Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves, Dolly Parton, Slim Whitman etc…

What tunes are on heavy rotation for you…

At the moment it’s The Lemon Drops, Highspeed V, The Idle Race, Hawkwind and the first Status Quo album.

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?

I guess it would someone I’d like to see live myself. The Sonics? Fuzztones? I don’t know. Anyone that would be happy to have us open for them really…

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,

Maybe sifting through records, but more than likely overindulging in the local cuisine.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us:
It’s supposed to sound like that;-)
