Just exploring some of this new folk and came across this band. It’s like Cat Stevens meets Uriah Heep or maybe acoustic Led Zeppelin meets the hills of North Carolina. Anyway you want to slice or dice it , the music is good…..

Steel Threads are an English ‘Power-Folk’ band, blending their love of Rock, Folk and Acoustic music. Formed in July 2011, after years in the making, the band consisted of Neil Wardleworth on Guitar and Vocals, Stuart Eastham on Double Bass and Cliff Woodworth on Fiddle. All 3 members being involved in the music industry, and with years of experience, helped Steel Threads achieve powerful, heartfelt and engaging live performances.
Influenced primarily by bands such as The Waterboys, The Levellers, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, New Model Army, REM and Crowded House, the band prides themselves on strong songwriting and genuine musicianship.
Steel Threads have recorded a first album entitled ‘Timing is Everything’, and released this through Rocksector Records on the 4th June 2012. Since then the band has gigged through the UK, building a following, and developing a live show.
In October 2012, Steel Threads announced a new fiddle player in Laura Wilcockson, and the band continue to play live and write new music. Laura brings a new edge and enthusiasm to the band, and is herself a great, and experienced musician.
Steel Threads released a single ‘At The Start Again’ on the 10th December 2012. Steel Threads played ‘The Great British Folk Festival’ and supported ‘The South’ at Holmfirth Picturedrome in December 2012.
Between them, Steel Threads have had the pleasure of working with other artists such as New Model Army, The South, Hugh Cornwell, Imelda May, Hayseed Dixie, Twisted Wheel and many more, and are thankful these influences have made the band what it is.
Through the past year the band have played prestigious venues such as Holmfirth Picturedrome, Leamington Assembly, The Robin 2 in Wolverhampton and The Duchess in York. Along with a string of intimate venues throughout the UK. Steel Threads have performed at festivals in the UK and Germany.
Radio performances include ‘The Drift’ with Phil Brown on BBC Radio Lancashire and Sue Marchant on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
