Starting off March with a “Meet The Band” from Queen of Jeans. I’ve listened to this album enough times in the last month that I am confident , Queen of Jeans will be one of my favorite new bands of 2016. I love the voice, it just takes you in, captivates and swirls around you. The band as a whole is what makes this album , stand out. The music is very cool, catchy well written lyrics filled with enough guitar licks , fuzz and sometimes a little feedback, sometimes dreamy but all in all an excellent album worthy of being reviewed in Shindig or Uncut. My advice would be to listen to this EP today, then head over to Third Uncle Records and pick up your own copy and of course, tell all your friends about this awesome new band…Queen of Jeans.
for those unfamiliar with your band’s history, can you tell us all how you all met up and decided to start a band ?
Matheson: last new year’s, the miri, nina and i were at a party together and made a resolution to work on music with each other. miri already had the songs written, and we had so much fun playing together that we decided to be a band! and then we needed a drummer so we found Patrick on the internet and wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Patrick: I posted an ad on Craigslist, and they responded. The funny thing is that my ad wasn’t even about finding a band. I just really wanted to get rid of my old Care Bears.
Nina: we actually all originally met via the Internet in various ways over the past 5 years
who would you list as your musical influence?
Miriam: Cocteau Twins, Roy Orbison, Tears for Fears
Matheson: whatever I’m listening to at the time seems to sneak its way in.
Nina: cher
whats the coolest thing that’s happened to you as a band since you started up?
Matheson: everything!
Patrick: Every day I am thankful to be in a band with the most kickass artists and people I know.
Nina: getting asked to play the lucky 13 block party was a pretty big deal for me personally
Miriam: Hearing a man say Rollerdyke in a Spanish accent (hot)
what are your hopes and dreams as a band for the next few years.
Nina: to make music so beautiful people’s ears fall off
Miriam: to grow stronger as a family unit & get a dog FINALLY
Patrick: To have more people hear us and hopefully also like us as much as we like them.
what are some of your favorite albums from the past few years?
Matheson: too many! right now a few I’m really into are the most recent from Petal, Blake Mills, Tame Impala, and PWR BTTM.
Patrick: I Love You, Honeybear has been on heavy rotation for a year. I also really dig the new JR JR and Pure Bathing Culture records
Nina: tbh I listen to our own ep probably too often. also currently digging La Luz’s “Weirdo Shrine”
Miriam: Alvvays, Camera Obscura “Desire Lines” & Cate le Bon “Mug Museum”
Do you see any real use for social media , or is it all just a pain in the ass to keep with?
Patrick: I’ve met some of my favorite people on social media, so I am all for it. It can be overwhelming sometimes, but it’s also a lot of fun and a good way to show the band’s personality a little more.
Matheson: i love social media. did i mention we met our drummer Patrick on the internet?!
Nina: how else am I supposed to find out what everyone’s cat is doing?
Do you pay attention to reviews or comments from people about your music or do you just turn that noise off.
Matheson: i like to read them. so far everything has been really positive. if we get to the level where people are mean to us, then i’ll probably have to medicate myself.
Patrick: I do. It’s always interesting to see how other people interpret your music.
Nina: any time there’s a new blog post or article we’re immediately all over it!
If you could tour anywhere in the world , where would you want to go.
Miriam: The UK to hang out with our buddy Uncle Luc
Patrick: Japan for sure. It’d be a lot of fun to play in a place so different from the US.
Matheson: Ireland!
Nina: i’d actually like to check out more of the united states
Can music save the mortal soul or is just a good backbeat to your life.
Matheson: what if I’m immortal
Patrick: Backbeat’s back, alright.
Nina: what?
Any last thoughts for your fans?
Patrick: Thanks for listening, and please let me know if you’re in the market for a gently used Care Bear.
Miriam: does anyone know the name of a good psych ward for patrick
