I enjoy listening to these guys, expect to hear some straight up rock n roll, I don’t want to make a lot of comparisons here but they remind me a little of some other band from their town, checking out their Facebook page you will see that The Person & The People are playing at a tribute to The Replacements in a few days and after listening to this excellent second album , I would say that sounds about right. Well crafted songs, catchy hooks, smart lyrics overall great vibe, give a listen to these guys, good stuff for sure .
Meet The Band
Hi our name is…
The Person & The People
People say we sound like…
Big Star, Weezer, Teenage Fanclub
We are..
Nick Costa, Sam Sanford, Andy Sanford, Adam Mallory
We are originally from…
Saint Paul, MN
Who are some that have an influence on your sound??
Nick Costa, Sam Sanford, Andy Sanford, Adam Mallory, Beer, Tacos
The first time we all decided to get together and make some music…
We all met when we were 15 and 16 and playing in different bands. When we were all 18 and 19, we decided to join up and start making records.
Books we recommend …
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, anything by Kurt Vonnegut.
Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the album ready?
Generally, Sam or I will come to the group with a song. We’ll learn it, manipulate it, and then go record it. Pretty quick and painless process.
Our craziest gig ever was…
Years ago we played a concert called “Ass Fest”. Andy was so drunk that he played half of the show with his tuner pedal on (which mutes him entirely), then he fell off of the stage. The cops showed up and shut the show down as we were playing a cover of “End Of The Road” by Boys II Men. Andy woke up without a shirt or his wallet.
If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be?
I honestly don’t think I would. I like the fact that we can appreciate a band for their influence. It would be cool to see some bands in their prime, but at the same time they weren’t perceived in the same sense that we see them now. I think people gain appreciation for bands over time. However, if I could have seen Weezer right after Maladroit/Pre-“Make Believe” that would be awesome.
Growing up at home we listened to…
Minor Threat, Dillinger Four, No Use For A Name…Blink 182 got me into playing guitar. Foo Fighters’ album Colour and the Shape made me want to be in a band. As I grew older, I started just listening to anything I could.
What tunes are on heavy rotation for you?
Right now, the new Weezer album is incredible and I listen to it way too much. Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s new album Slingshot to Heaven has been in almost non-stop rotation since it came out.
If you could open for any band right now who would that be and why?
I’ve never really thought about that before. Probably Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s or Weezer since I’ve been listening to them constantly as of lately.
If you could give any advice to the kids who are just picking up their 1st guitars or drum sets and want to be in a rock n roll band, what’s your advice?
You get a guitar and you totally suck. Then you start to learn some things, but you still suck. Just keep playing. There’s always somebody “better” than you at what you want to do, but nobody is you. Your personality reflects in your art. Just keep doing what you do, and you’ll be fine.
When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you?
Probably getting pizza, or going to a record store.
The one thing we want you to remember while you’re listening to us…
Breathe, dammit! BREATHE!
listen to the excellent new album…
and you can keep up with The Person & The People….
