Record of the Day: Link Wray – Missing Links Vol. 1

It’s the anniversary of Link Wray‘s birth, and if you only know him for that one song from that one movie, let Norton Records’ Link Wray – Missing Links Vol. 1 (or 2 or 3 or 4) fill you in.

Volume 1 includes a lot of gem’s from Link’s early rockabilly days, which are just plain fun.

Grandfather of the power chord, Link was a standout guitar player. We have him to thank for the greasy, dirty sound of a great rock n roll guitar, and his instrumental tracks are a testament to that.

Any volume in this collection is a perfect one to put on. Solidly good, the tracks Norton has compiled make for an upbeat listen. It’s perfect driving music — almost motivational. Pair your road trip with a Link Wray record and you might find it hard to stop driving, even when the sun goes down, even when you reach your originally intended destination. Personally, I can think of no better way to kick off the summer than driving off into the sunset, listening to good music and seeking out whatever adventure is on the horizon.
