Before I even looked at Royal Chant’s influences I heard it – the wonderful, jangly, genius of one of my favourite bands ever – Dramarama. It’s subtle and it’s not even that they “sound” like Dramarama, it’s just something in the songwriting, song structure, and melodies.
Royal Chant are a trio born in the sleepy coastal town of Port Macquarie, Australia and now call Sydney home. They have spent the last 5 years playing shows across Australia on stages big and small and even recently toured around the U.S. They are currently working on an EP – ‘The War Cry Of Failure’.
Just Trying To Meet You is their latest single and it’s a ripper! This is mint mid-80s jangle pop, all cymbals, fuzzy guitar, and scratchy vocals – it’s catchy as all hell and it makes me want to make a mix tape.
