WORKIN’ MAN
by Reno Bo
A baby kissed, an empty list
of bible lines you know
The straw is stacked on the camel’s back
your stone already thrown
The admission price to sacrifice
the lion and the lamb
Won’t go unpaid, the role portrayed
by every workin’ man
You’re a sharpened thorn cleverly adorned
In the pedals of a rose
Through a needle’s eye, parading by
in the emperor’s new clothes
a fortune amassed, a baton passed
into another leader’s hands
don’t worry now, it’ll trickle down
to every workin’ man
A headline lead by your talking head
and a fiction of new facts
A greed that feeds the news machine
Now there ain’t no turning back
You’re a thin line blurred in a war of words
drawn upon the ground we stand
A levied the tax upon the backs
of every workin’ man
BRIDGE
Who’s gonna turn the pages
through forgotten history books?
The minimum wage for our attention paid
is lower than it looks
Every bridge and road, every download
Every car, every open door
We benefit from ideas and sweat
of men and women who’ve come before
a vision guided, a service provided
Not by just one set of hands
A soil tilled, a nation built
by every workin’ man
We see through your lies and realize
the power’s in our hands
down look now but you’re gonna bow
before the workin’ man.
You can dye the wool, you can dot your i’s
You can holler and grandstand
You can try to conquer and divide
but it ain’t workin’ man.
yes, you can try to conquer and divide
but it ain’t workin,’ man.
