Hailing from Vancouver, White Lung simply kick ass. Their live show is spectacular and their latest album Deep Fantasy has been showing up on all kinds of “Best of 2014” lists (including mine). White Lung is led by vocalist Mish Way and the unbelievable guitar playing of Kenneth William – seriously, this guy is an original and the sounds he conjures from his axe help White Lung stand out from the masses. He’s got a Tom Morello vs. The Edge thing happening.
As an album, Deep Fantasy is relentless behind Anne-Marie Vassiliou’s barrage of crashing cymbals and in many ways reminds me of an obscure 80s hardcore/metal band out of L.A. called Detente or even a heavier, Bleach-era female fronted Nirvana. But then there’s that guitar, it changes everything. Whatever, Deep Fantasy is a flat out killer record and it is one of the best of 2014.
