Justin Vernon famously hid away in a secluded cabin in the wilderness of Wisconsin to write and record the sparse and beautiful classic – For Emma, Forever Ago. Similarly New Zealand pych-popper Kane Strang house sat at his parents in Dunedin, NZ and wrote and recorded his first “proper” record – Blue Cheese out now on Bada Bing Records and Flying Nun Records.
The result is equally engaging. Blue Cheese is a fusion of the experimentation of Andrew Bird, the scratch of The Pixies, and the eccentricity of The National (to my ear anyway).
Look for big things from Kane this year.
