Waking up to good news is a happy turn of events lately, and today The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame announced that they’ll be giving Sister Rosetta Tharpe an “Early Influencer Award” and inducting her in 2018 — which makes today a great one to revisit her 1956 album “Gospel Train.”
Nina Simone is also an inductee for 2018, which kind of makes you wonder what the hell took so long to get these amazing women in there. But better late than never, I guess.
Tharpe was a true rock n’ roll pioneer, introducing heavy distortion on her guitar, which lead to, well, pretty much everything good in music that followed. We can all be glad she’s getting the recognition she so richly deserves.
