Record of the Day…You by Deathcats

Deathcats

It’s minus 25 degrees Celsius or something like that outside at the moment – so cold your eyes will freeze shut in about 15 minutes. It does stay light out a little bit longer now, but by dinner – it’s dark. Alas, that’s living in Ontario for you.

So it felt like the middle of August when I heard the song “You” by Glasgow based reverb masters – Deathcats – it warmed me up a bit. You can just feel the sun shining through this perfect piece of guitar drenched garage pop and even though they are a trio, it sounds as though they have six guitarists. The song was released by the excellent Scottish label – Fuzzkill Records as part of a four song split cassette with Canadian favs – New Swears. Sadly it seems as though Deathcats is on some kind of hiatus as of December. Let’s hope it’s not too long.

I still turn to Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys every February – it’s a little sliver of light and hope in the middle of another cold and dreary Canadian winter. But when I make a new “Dead of Winter” playlist – Deathcats will find a place.
