In case you missed our 1st post on The Insomniacs…
Let’s start a summer here at 50thirdand3rd with what promises to be a great lineup of happening rock bands with, The Insomniacs. This is a Band that lays down some very cool tunes that if there was a radio station playing rock ‘n’ roll instead of all this spoon fed nonsense, these guys would be in rotation somewhere between Amy Gore and The Split Squad. I know Little Steven and 1,000 others doing podcasts are doing their best to spread the word but I’m crazy enough to still wish there was an FM radio station dedicated to playing what’s NOW. I digress….Listen to the music kids, tell your friends that rock isn’t dead and if you are like me and love Pop and Garage, and everything that’s good with rock ‘n’ roll ,I promise you the next few months here at 50thirdand3rd will feature some of the very best of todays’ kick ass Bands and we are kicking that off today with…The Insomniacs..
Hi our name is….The Insomniacs
And our sound might be best described as….Garage pop.
We are…. Joel: The drums. David: The bass guitar, vocals. Robert: The guitar, vocals.
We are originally from…..The great Garden State of New Jersey.
The first time we met was…..Robert met David upon being brought home from the hospital (brothers, you know.). Those two met Joel at college, all were playing in different bands at the time (Dave and Bob in The Tea Club, Joel in The Eve.). Their first show together was billed as The Plastic Weisberger Deluxe, circa 1990 when the then-drummer of The Insomniacs couldn’t make it. 20 years later, they would reconvene this, the most powerful lineup, to record “Just Enjoy It!’, our latest LP.
We knew we were going to be a Band when………Watching reruns of The Monkees and the Partridge Family on TV.
Before starting the band we were employed as…….Dave was a construction worker. Joel was a cop. Bob was an Indian.
Our craziest gig ever was….Very early on, before we really had any business doing so, we did a few gigs in Germany and Amsterdam. The first gig in Pottsdam was one of the bigger things we’ve ever played. Before that, we were just playing mostly local clubs/bars in NJ and NYC. Joel was a member of the road crew on this tour. It was crazy to go from playing to a handful of people to 600 people, many of whom didn’t speak English. Of course, the following week, we were back to playing for 20 people at the Jersey Shore.
The first song we wrote was…….”At Thursday Morning At Half Past Two”.
It’s about……Those 45 minutes on stage, where we are happiest. Too bad it goes by so fast.
What we are currently listening to….Maharajas: “In Pure Spite”, Big Star: “Keep An Eye On The Sky”, The Smiths: “The Queen Is Dead”.
A few albums we could never part with….You Am I: “Hourly Daily”, Hellacopters: “By The Grace of God”, The Clash: “London Calling”.
For fun we like to…..Drink and forget.
Expect from us in 2014….new 7″ in the works!
go see them if you get the opportunity ….
