Punk, country, bluegrass, and honky tonk from Brooklyn…..Meet, The Defibulators

thedefibs

The Defibulators combine it all and make it new. The first time I listened to them , I was hooked and in the middle of a tour and on their way to SXSW they took time out to answer a few questions for us. I’m not an expert on the history of music but I do think that The Defibulators are making music that is the logical conclusion of time honored styles coming together in one band. Not to mention that they kick ass and this is some cool stuff.
Give a listen to them and see them if you get the opportunity, I know I will…..

Meet , The Defibulators

Hi our name is….The Defibulators

And our sound might be best described as…That’s a tough one, our favorite descriptions by others have been “HeeHaw on Mescaline” or “The perfect soundtrack for a family picnic or a meth lab.”

We are… Bug Jennings, Erin Bru, Chris Roadblock Hartway, Michael Riddleberger, David Dawda, Justin Smitty, Michael Metalbelly Ginsberg.

We are originally from…..The band is collectively from Brooklyn, NY; that’s where we found eachother. But individually we are from Texas, California, New Jersey, Washington and Wisconsin.

The first time we met was…..Erin met Bug in an elevator. Bug met Roadblock tending bar together in an NYC BBQ restaurant, Bug and Erin met Smitty on a Brooklyn rooftop…

We knew we were going to be a Band when………we played our 1st gig at Otto’s Shrunken Head & Tiki Lounge in the East Village. We opened for a punk band and that kind of set the tone for us going forward. We had a blast playing classic country tunes with a punk feel, and playing punk tunes with a country feel. Then we bought and ambulance on ebay because we needed a van. After that, we knew there was no turning back.

Before starting the band we were employed as…….meat-pie hustler, coffee-truck-driver, soundman for a Tango class, to name a few

Our craziest gig ever was….a Belgian Prison. Hopefully it will be the last time we are forced to eat prison food.

The first song we wrote was…….”Thin Air

It’s about……being drunk on an airplane.

What we are currently listening to….George Jones, Buck Owens, The Animals, Beck, Warren Zevon, Roger Miller, The Whiskey Gentry, Have Gun Will Travel

A few albums we could never part with….”Standing on the Verge of Getting it On” by Funkadelic, “I’m a People” by George Jones, “You’re For Me” by Buck Owens, “Warren Zevon” by Warren Zevon

For fun we like to…..find the best regional food wherever we play on tour. Especially if it involves, crawfish, bbq, fried chicken, and good local beer.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us……Have fun. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, we’re just trying to bring our love of classic country music to audiences that may not have thought they liked country, or have never heard country like this before.

Expect….. more touring and more music videos. And eventually a musical about snake handlers. or not. but maybe!
