Psycho Sundae Mini Reviews

It’s been a while but at last Psycho Dave @whozthecat has penned a few more mini reviews of bands he’s liking.

Frankie & The Witch Fingers – Electric Seance

With a top cassette album and the brilliant self titled 2015 LP from which our featured track is taken, Frankie & The Witch Fingers are becoming a true underground music force who make a wonderful Garage/Psych fuelled racket.

Once of Indiana but now based in California you may also recognise 3 of the band members from their other band ‘Triptides’ (Dylan, Josh & Glen).  Glen (Drums) and Josh (Lead Guitar) met whilst at Indiana University and also played in a band called Prince Moondog whereas you may remember singer/guitarist Dylan from fronting Dead Beach.

They cite Gene Clark, Spaceman 3 and Thee Oh Sees among their many influences and are big Apache Dropout fans. If you like our featured track then you must seek out their album.

Apache Dropout – Ghost Stories

Apache Dropout are a three piece from Indiana and mix Garage/Psych and Bubblegum Stomp.

Their first offering was a cassette album (also available digitally) and they followed this up with the brilliant Bubblegum Graveyard.  From 2014 came their latest offering ‘Heavy Window’ which was equally amazing.

Our featured track is from Bubblegum Graveyard which was mastered by Mikey Young of Total Control.

Singer/Guitarist Sonny Blood claims to have been raised on Velvet Underground but his favourite band are The Stooges, and all of the band are Flaming Groovies fans.

Seth Mahern (Drummer) is very instrumental in proceedings at Magnetic South Records and watch out for all band members appearing with The Sister Outreach Ministry.

The Blue Angel Lounge – Bewitch My Senses

The Blue Angel Lounge were a Berlin based band who were named after a club in New York where Nico made her debut live American performance – she remained an influence throughout the band’s career.

The band released three outstanding albums, as well as a limited edition CDr live album in 2011, released on 8mm Musik.

In 2012 they embarked on a 10 gig tour of America supporting The Brian Jonestown Massacre which gained them fantastic reviews.  Their final album ‘Sea of Trees’ was released through Anton Newcombe’s A-Records label.  Our featured track appeared on their 2nd album ‘Narcotica’ which is part produced by Anton.

Unfortunately shortly after Sea Of Trees, The Blue Angel Lounge announced via Facebook that the band were splitting up and all future shows were being  cancelled.

This seemed quite an abrupt and sad end for a band who seemed destined for great things, however their influence lives on through current bands like The Underground Youth……Enjoy!
