Proto-Punk Dreampop gang outa Brooklyn ,Meet – Women of the Night

I was reading an Interview the other day with The Parquet Courts and they were summing up the sound as “in the key of New York’ and that is exactly what I’m thinking about as I listen to this cool EP. Women of the Night have that VU/Lou vibe running through the tracks and that would be all the recommendation that I would need to give a listen..

Meet – Women of the Night

J – Jords
N- Nick
M – Mick
K – Kirstyn

for those unfamiliar with your bands history, can you tell us all how you all met up and decided to start a band ?
We were propositioned by a minivan with number plates from Nebraska on the street assuming we were ‘Women of the Night’? We decided to make such fantasies a reality and become the Women of the Night.

who would you list as your musical influence?.

Drugs

whats the coolest thing that’s happened to you as a band since you started up?

J – We were asked to take it all off the other night and err Mike made a killer Martini last night

what are your hopes and dreams as a band for the next few years.

J- Continue making cassingles and maybe progress to Records. Also we want to be invited to guest star at the Box Theatre. There was a chap there called Bobby who had a table and unfavorably requested our services to to recruit Women for him to which we obliged. Upon holding up our end of the bargain he re-nigged on his end so Bobby if you’re reading this we’re coming for your table old chap…

what are some of your favorite albums from the past few years?

J – Bad // Dreems – Dogs at Bay & You Am I’s entire catalogue but recently Porridge and Hotsauce
N – I like everything King Krule and his friends do. I also like Tyler the Creator and his friends. I wanna be friends with both those guys.
M – The Above – Waterbury St
K – Not released yet but upcoming Missing Footage LP

Do you see any real use for social media , or is it all just a pain in the ass to keep with?

J – It’s a pain in the ass but it’s good for keeping in touch with far away gangs and reaching people outside of the local bars we frequent.
M – It’s a pain for me, I still use the classifieds

Do you pay attention to reviews or comments from people about your music or do you just turn that noise off.
J – Nah not really the noise ain’t turned down but the Women do as they please.
M – I stopped after what Kanye said about us.

If you could tour anywhere in the world , where would you want to go.

J – I’d love to play at home in the Grace Emily Hotel Adelaide under the watchful eye of Bert Newton.
N – Iqaluit – I wanna be the biggest band in Nunavut
M – Lincoln Nebraska
K – Hmm, After Lincoln, a badlands tour. We’ll start in Wyoming and South Dakota, working our way up to Alberta Canada. Then we’ll play the rock formations in Spain and Italy where we’ll film a Sergio Leone-vibed Western or maybe a really arty Antonioni thing.

Can music save the mortal soul or is just a good backbeat to your life.

J – Yep certainly can huh, we’ve all been there a few times… It will also keep you from making poor decisions at the hairdressers
N – I don’t have a soul or a backbeat but I have a playlist for anything that might happen to me, ever, and I often play it on repeat
M – It pays the bills yo

Any last thoughts for your fans?

J – Stay wild and true and surrender yourself to the night. We’ll see you in the night generally around Pumps on Modays, Vixens on Wednesdays
