Brooklyn’s PowerSnap are set to release their debut EP on June 30th via King Pizza Records and even with just four songs it was an interesting exercise choosing a track to premiere.
The four tracks on “Delatency” – are really fresh sounding to my ears. Well 3.5 because “Miscallaneous” sounds like they left the tape rolling and even then there are some interesting things happening.
PowerSnap describe themselves as “Crunchy Grungy Punk Rock with pop rocks hooks and foreign roots.” That works, because the songs here are all markedly different.
The garage poppy “Chemistry” evokes “Melted” era Ty Segall, while “Bravery” is a wonderfully strange psychedelic creation (and a song I can’t stop listening to).
And then there’s “Pink Diamonds” in all its fuzzy pulsating glory. I sense some serious songwriting chops here and from this small sample size I am very interested what PowerSnap is and what they will become.
