DeStructos are a band from Philadelphia whose debut EP “Blast!” made quite an impression on a lot of people, myself included. Released in the Spring of 2020, “Blast!” generally made a lot of fanzine buzz with write ups in Freak No-Hitter and Maximum Rocknroll.
DeStructos is Sam Gasparre (Mob Terror) on guitar and vocals, and Cassidy McGinley (Blank Spell) on drums and vocals. Their tape sounded like a meaner and more unruly and angular B-52’s, mixed with some noise and dance rock elements. McGinley’s shouty vocals remind me of Layla Gibbon (Skinned Teen, Petty Crime) and Gasparre has a low register vocal that alternates with something more gruff yet tuneful.
“Dustcloud (Party Mix)” is their contribution to a compilation coming out on Girlsville called “Paid By Rock”. It’s a remix of a song from “Blast!” which bends the original into a dark and clubby beat-oriented banger.
“Paid By Rock” is the follow-up comp to Girlsville’s 2020 mixtape, “Be Gay, Do Crime!” and will be available Friday, August 6th. Other bands featured on the comp include Adulkt Life, Lithics, Fun Time Objects, Germ House, Blues Lawyer, THREX, Andrew Anderson, The Maxines, The Cinks, Star Party, Mr. & The Mrs., and Freak Genes.
