Pop Rock From The South Of France….Meet, Betty The Shark

It’s all about the Music Kids……Read about the Band and give a listen to the Album. Pretty cool stuff, I like the vibe and the pop sensibilities’, music and vocals are catchy and keep you listening, the range keeps you wondering what is up around the corner.

Hi our name is….

Betty The Shark

People say we sound like….. The Pixies, Patti Smith when accelerated, I think one person said Gwen Stefani once

We are….. Lee Ann Curren (Vocals, bass, main member), Philip Caradona a.k.a Charphil (Lead Guitarist, vocals, main member), Quentin Marty (rhythm guitarist) and Yan Renaut (drummer)

We are originally from…..

The Surf section of the Basque state located in the South France, so we are all French except for Lee ann and Charphil who are Franco-American

Who are some that have an influence on your sound?? Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Pixies

The first time we played Was at the Swatch pro Feminine surf contest in Capbreton France. Charphil had two days to rehearse with Lee Ann and the bassist would stop playing in the middle of the songs, laugh at our friend filming that he didn’t even know cause he barely knew any of the songs since not of us rehearse all together since all the songs were written from sending the garageband tracks back and forth from NY to France from charphil to lee ann (vice versa) and Charphil had came to France two days before the show having never rehearse with the band before.

Books we recommend …

Spiritual astrology by Jan Spiller & Karen McCoy

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the album ready?

Charphil and Lee ann (us) wrote the songs Palm tree and Snow light together on garageband and the rest were sent back and forth from NY to France (or vice versa) and each of us (Charphil and Lee Ann) added our sounds from each end of the world. Once Charphil came back to France after 5 years we could finally rehearse the songs together and we recorded the album in the South of France, in the studio we saw the album really come to life. It was the first time we recorded something in a real studio but it came sort of naturally, it was a lot of work though especially mixing. We are really happy with the way our first album Shepherd Of The Moon sounds.

Our craziest gig ever was….

Was at a local bar called the Juggling Gypsy Cafe & Hookah Bar| Wilmington North Carolina. in Wilmington there were really nice and cool, we took a picture with the whole crowd and even have some of them as Facebook friends now, they were a bunch of surfers like us and they all danced and drank and were just full of life.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….

Charphil: 1980 because they would really appreciate how well evolve the electronic music is now if I bring back some tapes with me since electronics were a big thing back then, and they would float with some of the ghoulish melodies of the lo-fi house music and Legowelt that they made in the millennium. But then 1980 to listen to French Colwave in France

Lee ann: It would be 1985 to see Dinosaur jr play their first album live in New York, cause I saw them live at the opening of the London House of Vans and then went to the hospital to get paper out of my ears cause the amps were so loud I had to stick something in my ears to protect them from bleeding except I pushed them in too far

Growing up ,at home we listened to…..

Charphil: as a kid it was Slipknot, Blink-182, Unwritten Law

Lee ann: as a kid it was The Cranberries, Pixies, Sublime

What tunes are on heavy rotation for you…

Sea Stone by Heru Odyssey… you can find him on Soundcloud

Love Story by Clara Cappagli… you can find her on Soundcloud as well

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?

John Maus because he’s real, medieval, and was able to make it big by doing karaoke over his songs

If you could give any advise to the kids who are just picking up their 1st guitars or drum sets and want to be in a rock n roll band , what’s your advise?

Charphil: Don’t try to make another Nirvana album, some music will stay underground and some will make it on the radio, none is better than the other, so just make what sounds good to you and it will find its place in life.

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,

If we don’t know the town then a place where it’s fun, like a park or a bar. If we know the town we go to the park and then at night we go to the bar.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us

That you can purchase our album “Shepherd Of The Moon” on iTunes and that we have a second album coming out somewhere in the beginning of 2015, if not the beginning stay updated with our twitter Betty The Shark or our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BettyTheSharkbecause the album is definitely coming out lol.
