Calgary’s Pill Crusher make a hell of a racket for a trio. Their latest release; The First Two Years: Cosmonauts is a veritable wall of noise.
They call it sludge pop, which does work as a descriptor because there are some wicked hooks behind all that noise; like the lead off track – “Vaccine” and the menacing “Creepy Charlie“.
There’s a little 80s noise punk feel to it all, like Scratch Acid or Flipper and it’s a little grungy at times, but more Jeff the Brotherhood and Mudhoney than Nirvana.
