New Music: POP LEVI – Spell on Me

In my mind Pop Levi was destined to become a giant rock star. I saw him live way back in 2007 and even though it was a small club, I felt I was witnessing something special. If you are not familiar with his music just check out his brilliant 2007 debut “The Return To Form Black Magick Party.”

As fate would have it, it didn’t really turn out that way. The enigmatic glam pop rocker released five albums (the last in 2012) but his amazing blend of T Rex glam rock, pop, and Prince couldn’t find a way to make him rich and all-world.

That’s not to say he hasn’t been busy.

Levi has produced and performed with Canadian-born model Bunny Holiday as the Industrial/Electronic duo crush_DLX, releasing through their SoundCloud one track a day for 370 days in 2014.

He wrote and produced the Childish Gambino song “The Party” for the album “Because the Internet”, which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

He, along with Holiday directed the music video for former N.W.A star Arabian Prince’s “Let’s Hit The Beach” single.

He has also recorded and released music under the pseudonym Jr. Hi featuring guest vocals by The Weeknd and Childish Gambino and he has also worked with with a number of other artists including Kimbra, Switch and Robert DeLong.

It looks like he’s back now, with a brand new song released via Spotify last week. Stay tuned!
