THROAT
Delivering punishing abrasive rock since 2009, Throat drops the furious ‘Shots‘ from their forthcoming album ‘Smile Less‘ out May 14th. The Finnish rockers skillfully find the sweet spot between the agitated noise rock of Pissed Jeans and the metallic density of 2000s Slayer. This is going to be a loud one!
DeeCRACKS
Austrian punks DeeCRACK have never been a genre-transgressing experiment, but over a decade or two they have perfected tight, compact, verse-chorus-verse brusque bursts of punky power pop. Of course, the Ramones come to mind but there are whiffs of Social Distortion carried by the gravelly voice of guitarist/vocalist Matt DeeCRACK. Their latest album ‘Serious Issues‘ is out on Pirates Press Records.
KNIFE TWISTER
There’s not much to tell you about San Jose’s Knife Twister, but ‘Same Old Game‘ from their recently released single sure stands out. It’s a tidy little aggro ditty with energetic guitars and semi-screaming vocals. It will easily have you screaming along with the more than apropos refrain “I’m so tired of the same old game Where every day starts to seem the same“.
SLAYER JR
Okay, I’ll admit the name draws you in, but what’s there not to love about catchy lo-fi kinetic garage rock? This LA duo throws down 4 tracks of inspired glitter fuzzy egg punk with an Angry Samoans nihilism to it all.
NUNS OF THE TUNDRA
Nuns of the Tundra call themselves desert stoner rock, but this ain’t no hazy psychedelic trip. On their new EP ‘THE WORLD’S GONE CRAZY AND SO HAVE I‘ they play a strain of stoner rock that has more bounce to it than the sludge of Kyuss. The guitars are massive, the drums gallop and there is a Tool precision to the arrangements.
