It’s Moon Mullican’s birthday (or the anniversary of Moon’s birth, if you prefer), so here’s a video of the piano-rocking Texan playing Cherokee Boogie (Eh-Oh-Aleena) on the Grand Ol’ Opry in a cowhide hat, I believe in the early 50s.

Known as the King of the Hillbilly Piano Players, Moon is credited as being one of the first to take country in a rock n roll direction, a move to which rockabilly owes its entire existence. So, thanks for that, Moon. And happy birthday.
