‘Modern Cults’ from Holygram – Album Of The Week

Cover Photo: Ville Andersson

Let Germany’s Holygram lure you into the night with their debut LP, Modern Cults. “Lose yourself” in Modern Cults’ foreboding atmospheric growls and urgent throbbing beats. “Signals” is a shimmery dark dream with Pilo Lenger’s wistful synths and Sebastian Heer’s lashing drums ever so slightly evoking early New Order while Patrick Blümel’s somber vocals are pure gloomy romance. “Dead Channel Skies” blasts like blistering cold and swells with piercing metallic menace as it leads into the dreamy melancholy of “Hideaway”. Marius Lansing’s watery guitars on “Odd Neighborhood” glisten like gorgeous tears over Bennett Reinmann’s solemn, weighty bass lines.
