Kickin Rockabilly , Meet – Maureen & The Mercury 5

Rockabilly is a sound that has survived many trends throughout the history of rock n roll. And after you give a listen to Maureen & The Mercury 5 you’ll understand that a cool voice with a great sound will never fade away. This is a tight band who do rockabilly justice, so start your week off by digging on some cool ass rockabilly.

Meet- Maureen & The Mercury 5

who would you list as your musical influence?

bonnie raitt, chrissie hinde, dusty springfield, brian setzer

what’s the coolest thing that’s happened to you as a band since you started up?

we opened for dick dale to a standing room only audience! then, we hung out with him for (3) hours talking about music, romance (he has truly found love), ghosts and technology. a close second is becoming the first rockbabilly band in late night tv talk show history for “after dark w/julian clark @ the second city” in hollywood (and I’m the first female music director!)

what are your hopes and dreams as a band for the next few years.

we want to open up for a roots/blues rock, pop rock, country or rockabilly act like z z top, cheap trick, brian setzer, si cranston, imelda may, the black keys or winery dogs — we want to cross over into mainstream radio. and I want to find the perfect rockabilly jeans LOL

what are some of your favorite albums from the past few years?

can’t really name a favorite album but I will tell you the artists that always deliver what I need: brian setzer, black keys, si cranston, slim jenkins (out of san francisco) — but I love modern music too and my guilty pleasure is the tv show “nashville”

Do you see any real use for social media , or is it all just a pain in the ass to keep with?

social media has become a necessary evil. we tried to get sponsorship in money or product and they said “not until you hit over 10,000 on your twitter/facebook/instagram accounts” – yikes! well, golly, mr. sponsor, if you give me the money, I’ll hire the interns to post 3 X day on each site. It sounds easy but it can be daunting, I think….

Do you pay attention to reviews or comments from people about your music or do you just turn that noise off.

everyone has an opinion LOL 🙂 I collect only positive reviews for the press kit as they can impress sponsors and label executives. if something begins to look negative, unless it is from a reputable, professional source, I ignore it.

If you could tour anywhere in the world , where would you want to go.

I always want to go to paris, or anywhere in france – england, yes — but japan has a great rockabilly crowd and I’ve never been to germany or italy either!

Can music save the mortal soul or is just a good backbeat to your life.

yes – I do believe music can save the mortal soul BECAUSE it is the backbeat to our lives AND because it colors in the black & white we sometimes get trapped in. imagine a movie without a soundtrack, without strings literally tugging at your heart, without drums pounding in a chase scene. we live by mix tapes – we play music to honor what we are feeling and frame that snapshot of each moment we live with melody and poetry and rhythm.

Any last thoughts for your fans?

please buy our music everywhere music is sold! help our facebook/twitter/instagram pages reach 10,000! if you think you are my type, send me a love note because I keep meeting the wrong guys! LOL 🙂 — honestly, if I put all the guys in my band together, they’d make the perfect man for me. sigh…..
