It was a perfect Saturday.
It started with buying my first pair of Phish tickets for the June 26 Deer Creek show, where I will be Page Side in the pit. I bought two, not knowing who would be my Phish buddy.
That night, I headed to Stage AE to see Kacey Musgraves, country music’s brightest badass, with one of my best friends, Alaina, and our friend Denise. We shared beers, caught up on life, bought our Kacey T-shirts, laughed, cried and basically had one of the most magical friend nights ever. “Denise, Steph’s new thing is being into Phish,” Alaina said before Kacey took the stage. I mentioned having a second ticket and Alaina, who is always down for an adventure, immediately agreed to come with me, making plans to camp overnight. “This is going to be a Broad City episode,” she said. I LOVE ALAINA!
Kacey was perfection that night. Her voice sounds even better live, which is incredible, while her band wore matching suits and cactus neon plants lit up the stage. Dime Store Cowgirl, Pageant Material, Step Off, and a few fun covers, including These Boots Were Made for Walking, were major highlights.
But the best part of the night was making memories with my favorite people. This is what going to shows is all about – having fun with friends and enjoying the moment.
After the show, we headed back to Alaina’s car and ate cupcakes off the hood, celebrating her belated birthday as the rest of the crowd left the parking lot. We thought of heading to Lawrenceville but ended up eating chicken fingers at the Casino before going home.
It was the perfect night.
