Directed by Stewart Copeland
I have to point out that although this is a Meet The Band, these guys are not new to the scene. You could say they are seasoned professionals , at the top of their game , getting ready to release a new album. Turbo Fruits kick ass plain and simple. These guys lay down some killer blues rock and they have that sound of being tight, like “don’t worry dude, we got this”. And with friends like Patrick Carney who produced two songs on the upcoming Album “No Control”, Turbo Fruits are reminding us all that rock ‘n’ roll is in good hands. Give a listen to the live session below, and get ready to be impressed, these guys can play and they mean business. LOVE IT ALL!!!!
Hi our name is….
Turbo Fruits
People say we sound like…..
Rowdy rock n roll. We’ve been around since 2007 so the sound has evolved a lot over the years. Swinging from raw punk to straight ahead rock n roll.
We are…..
JoNasty, Kingsley Brock, Dave Tits & Matt Hearn
We are from…….
Nashville, TN
Who are some that have an influence on you…
Mainly rock n roll from before 1979: MC5, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Love, etc.
How old were all of you when you started to play and who plays what in the band…
We all started playing music when we were 10-15 years old. Turbo Fruits has been around since 2007 but this lineup has been solidified since 2010. JoNasty sings & plays guitar, Kingsley plays lead guitar & sings backup, Dave plays bass & sings back up and Matt drums.
Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the songs out…
Some of the songs come from one of us and are complete from the get-go other than everyone putting their spin on it instrumentally. Others start with a riff. Then we just jam it out until we find the different parts & arrange it together. We then demo them at Battle Tapes Recordings in East Nashville where we did the majority of our new record, No Control, and JoNasty & Kingsley work out the lyrics and vocal parts together.
What are some of the challenges you face as musicians and how have you overcome those challenges…
Life on the road is pretty crazy. You’re moving really fast, partying hard, not sleeping a lot and working really hard. Sometimes we butt heads when we’re exhausted but for the most part we’re like brothers. When you tour you spend time more time together than you do with anyone else in your life. Going to the bathroom becomes a real coveted time because it’s literally the only time you’re alone. We just try to be patient with each other and focus on the music and putting on a great live show.
If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….
The late 60s when The Beatles were in their psychedelic period. There was a lot of innovation going on and there was something really pure about it.
Who are all of you currently listening to ….
The Orwells, JEFF, Diarrhea Planet, Surfer Blood, Eternal Summers, The Black Keys, Diamond Rugs, Mikal Cronin, Tame Impala, The Weeks, Ty Segall, Sol Cat…
If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?
The Orwells or The Black Keys. The Orwells actually opened up for us back in 2012 before they started blowing up. Those guys are one of those raw pure young rock bands that is really doing something special and I think we’d make a pretty killer tour together. On the other hand, Patrick Carney produced two of the tracks on our new record, No Control. We’ve become good friends with him and it would be awesome to hang out with him on the road and get to play to their stadium audiences for obvious reasons.
My youngest son is 13 and in a Band, what advice would you offer him…
KEEP PLAYING AND NEVER STOP!!! The best advice I’ve ever gotten is to keep going. Sometimes you get discouraged struggling to learn a new style or technique or with getting a band out there. But the guys who keep doing it because they love it are the ones privileged enough to get on a stage every night instead of being stuck in an office.
The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us….
Have fun. Relax. Put our music on at a party. Life can be a bitch. Don’t let it get to you. That’s what music is good for.
Our plans for 2015…..
To tour our asses off and get No Control out there!
this is Turbo Fruits live in Nashville on 2-15-15, seriously give this a listen folks, these guys rock…..
