8 off 8th is a concert series held at The High Watt, giving local artists a chance to get up in front of an audience that otherwise may have never had the chance to connect. Eight bands that get three songs, or fifteen minutes to let the crowd into their world for a bit. One of the best parts is that it’s freaking free to attend and usually some pretty good drink deals, $2 Yuenglings anyone? I love watching bands at the High Watt. It always seems so intimate to me and very welcoming for the artist that get to perform on the stage.Last night, Jason Marsden was the host and he picked out a pretty awesome lineup. I met Jason a few weeks ago at a show at The Basement East as we both drooled over Down Boy’s performance, who also performed last night too! Jason was a most excellent host, introducing each new act over reading a brief bio with some background harmonica played by Joel Meeks. Meeks also sang some rather hilarious tunes in between acts in a little set up next to the stage. The show was impressive and it felt like everyone in the room knew one another and it was just a big reunion of old friends with any excuse to hang out.
The lineup included Anthony Adams and the Nite Owls, Daphne and the Mystery Machines, Damien Boggs and The Proper Villains, Dawn and Nash, Down Boy, My Politic, Isaac Hayden and People on the Porch.
A big thanks to Mars for inviting me and The High Watt for being home to such a great concert series!
