I think around 2002 was the year I started to really get into some of the Australian punk bands (as my girlfriend from the Gold Coast in Australia was living with me at the time) and after loading up on The Saints, Radio Birdman, The Celibate Rifles and Beasts Of Bourbon to name a few bands, I came across Lime Spiders. Formed in 1979, The Lime Spiders didn’t really break onto the scene until their debut studio album, The Cave Comes Alive! appeared in June 1987.
Australian music journalist Ian McFarlane, once referred to The Lime Spiders as a “raucous sound mixed screaming vocals and wild, fuzz-tone guitar riffs to arrive at a mutant strain of acid punk that bordered on heavy metal”. The band broke up in 1990 but have had various reincarnations over the years. Below is one of my favorite Lime Spiders song “Slave Girl” which came out in 1984 and reached the number-one independent single in Australia that same year.
Lime Spiders – Slave Girl
Lucky enough to SEE these guys when they played San Francisco and can confirm they were powerful and wicked live. Great Ozzie band teeming with talent. Find their records!
Excellent choice of song. Seriously underrated band.
