Lennon and Bowie – Elvis with Lipstick !

Eventually Elvis and Lipstick teamed up. Here’s the story behind their succesfull collaboration…

– Bowie had almost finished the ‘Young Americans’ sessions in late 1974 in New York. John Lennon was in town and the pair rocked out together. One night in early 1975 they had conversations about ‘fame’ and ‘greedy managers’ and it ended up in a one day session in the Electric Lady Studios in the Big Apple recording the song ‘Fame’.
– Bowie’s guitarist Carlos Alomar came up with the guitar riff. It was based on a song called ‘Foot Stompin’ by The Flares, which Bowie had been performing on tour. Lennon came up with the song’s title, sang the background ‘Fame’ parts in the high voice, played rhythm guitar and inspired the lyrics written by Bowie
– The single reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of 20 September 1975
