A few months back, we did a “Meet The Band” with The Mad Doctors, long story short, Greg from that Band has started his own label “King Pizza Records” who I came across digging through Bandcamp. All of this has led to a sweet collaboration with King Pizza Records. With Pizza Fest coming up soon we are going to be introducing you to a few of the Bands that will be at Pizza Fest.
Today that band is ¡Vamanos!. These two are full of punk/blues, full blast , high energy, screamin in the tradition of The Sonics, some of that craziness of Ty Segall , having a blast while they get frantic. This is the kind of band I want to see at a small bar, these guys look like they could get the crowd going old school, might be some pushing going on down front. Who could ask for more….Follow ¡Vamanos!, we are going to have more music as soon as their EP is finished in the near future, but this will get you started.
Meet….¡Vamanos!
Hi our name is….
¡Vamanos!
And our sound might be best described as….
Technically, we can’t call our selves garage rock because we live in NYC, and we haven’t set foot in a garage since moving here. We’ve been calling it Punk/Blues. Come to the shows, listen to the recordings, you tell us.
We are…
Alex Knoche (Vox, Guitar Fiddle)
Tyler Bower (Drum Sticks)
We are originally from…..
Alex: Detroit, MI, man.
Tyler: Phoenix, AZ – yes it’s a dry heat.
We met and live in Brooklyn, NY.
The first time we met was…..
We met on a Christian online dating site.
We knew we were going to be a Band when………
It’s probably safe to say we knew from the first time we jammed, something clicked. However, meeting/working with our now good friend and wizard Engineer, Danny Rose really put things in perspective to feel like we had something worth sharing.
Before starting the band we were employed as…….
We both still work for the man. We work hard for the money, like Donna Summer.
Our craziest gig ever was….
The next one, and the one after that. Come to Pizza Fest June 20-22nd, it’s going to be nuts.
The first song we wrote was…….
Bleeding Blues
It’s about……
Donating Blood
What we are currently listening to….
Now that we’re playing shows around town and also apart of the community that is King Pizza Records, we’re constantly exposed to a bunch of local and touring bands. To name a few that have crossed our paths that we can’t stop listening to:
Nancy
Greasy Hearts
The Mad Doctors
Sun Voyager
Crazy Pills
Gymshorts
Ma
Steady Sun (Tyler: I’ve had sneak peak, and they’re new stuff is going blow your mind!)
Pajama People
The Mystery Lights
Heavy Flow
… So many more, but this is already an obnoxiously long list.
A few albums we could never part with….
This is somewhat of an impossible question, but off the top of our noggins:
Sin Alley Compilation Volume One! – 18 Real Gon Rockabillly Blasters ‘Bout sex, Frogs, Martians, Lust, Fightin’ and Sex.
MC5 – Kick out the Jams
Genius/GZA – Liquid Swords
The Stooges – Fun House
Big Pun – Capital Punishment
Black Flag – Damaged
James Brown – Live at the Apollo
Junior Wells – Hoodoo Man Blues
For fun we like to…..
Host tea parties in our favorite sun dresses and eat brunch.
The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us……
Lynchburg, TN, the home of the Jack Daniels distillery and Little Richard is a dry county, Blasphemy. Also, long live LIVE music!
Expect….
Our debut EP, to be released via King Pizza Records will be out very soon. We’re hoping to release it during Pizza Fest, June 21st. Fingers crossed, because we’re unlucky liars.
Remember…if your anywhere around Brooklyn, you gotta go ….
and we dig King Pizza Records, and you should to….
with thanks to Bettina, for helping to organize all of this!!
