Up in the hills above Los Angeles, pop-fuzzters honeychain take us on a trip to the “Happy House” in their brand spankin’ new video which finds them tackling this Siouxsie & the Banshees gem from 1980’s Kaleidoscope. The jangle and the hooks are BIG, and the pop is a bit darker. honeychain bassist Andre Tusques elasticized interplay co-mingles with Hillary’s signature jangle and fuzz, and drummer Loye Aubrey Jr. holds it all together with a minimal and hypnotic rhythm.
I asked honeychain frontwoman Hillary Burton when this new treat the band cooked up for us came about. She tell us, “We recorded the basics a few months ago, then I did my guitars and vocals here at my house a few weeks ago. I mixed and mastered it, and then we shot footage Saturday and I edited the video this week. When I get a bee in my bonnet I work fast. I was also so inspired by Andre’s bass playing and Loye’s drumming on this track, so I was excited to get this released as a single pronto.”
The video was filmed on location (partially with drones!) in the foothills above Los Angeles near Angeles National Forest, a spot where Burton can be found buzzing around on her Ducati when not filming videos for catchy goth pop songs about mental institutions!
