Married to country star Jean Shepard, Hawkshaw tragically died in the same plane crash that killed Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copas in 1963. He was just 41 years old.
Tall and lanky, Hawkshaw released some fantastic albums before he died, and YouTube is full of clips of him performing on various old country variety shows. This is one of my favorites.
