From Glasgow…Meet, The Van T’s

vantes

Starting off 2015 with The Van T’s. Cool stuff indeed, think First Aid Kit all mixed up with Bleached and you have the makings of something special. Being a big fan of the reverb and folk sound, The Van T’s are an excellent way to get my day going. They also make me want to see what’s next, I need more, hopefully they will be back in the studio soon and when that happens, I will be sure to get the new stuff up. In the meantime there are a few killer tracks for you to get started with. I think you’ll dig The Van T’s, sign me up to the fan club….

Hi we are The Van T’s.

People say we sound like

the Wolf Alice, Honeyblood. Even California bands like Bleached, The Death Valley Girls and Best Coast.

We are

Chloe and Hannah Van Thompson.

We are originally

from Glasgow.

Who are some that have an influence on your sound?
We love a lot of different types of genres. Some bands that influence us are people like Wolf Alice, Ty Segall, The Pixes, The Cramps, HoneyBlood, The Black lips, Growlers, Bloody Knees, Jaws, Bleached and the Wavves.

The first time we decided to get together and make some music

was when we started to go to a lot of gigs to see local bands in Glasgow and thought it was really cool. Hannah wrote the first song California when we went on a road trip to the West coast.

Books we recommend are

the zombie room by R.D Ronald and The liar by Stephen Fry.

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the album ready?

These past two years we have been messing about with different riffs and lyrics. Usually we write music before lyrics then we write lyrics to whatever fits. Because we are twins we usually think alike and can agree on what songs we want on our EP.

Our craziest gig ever was

probably when we played a venue called broadcast, the ceilings are quite low and a lot of people seemed to dig our music. Such a good atmosphere.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be..

We would probably pick different times to go back to.
Hannah would pick the late 60’s and I (Chloe) would pick the early 90’s when grunge was all the rage.

Growing up ,at home we listened to

anything we could get our hands on. Our mum and dad were right their music so I guess that’s what influenced us. Growing up It was always The Doors, Nick Drake, Neil young, Red hot chili peppers, Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd.

What tunes are on heavy rotation for you…

Chloe – I’m really loving The growlers new Album Chineese Fountain. I also Really dig Girlpools ‘Blah Blah Blah’.

Hannah – Ty Segalls ‘manipulator’ and The temples Sun structures.

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?
We would open for most bands but we would definitely love to open for wolf alice because their shows are always great and they are really fun.

If you could give any advise to the kids who are just picking up their 1st guitars or drum sets and want to be in a rock n roll band , what’s your advise?

Chloe – my advice would be not to take it too serious and just have fun. Don’t fall into any cliques. Play and listen to anything and everything….
Oh and don’t expect it just to come
To you in one day… I didn’t learn to play a proper song until I was 16!!!

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you.
We haven’t toured yet, hopefully to come later in 2015. But I could imagine of be in the nearest pub.. Or shopping.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us is we like to have fun and not take things too serious.

Our plans for 2015 – record our new songs and play some banging shows with friends. Hopefully hit up a festival or two ;).

listen to these awesome tracks……
