Up for Pre-Order Friday, and on Cassette for the first time ever, is an expanded version of Various Artists: Our Voltage. First released in 2018, with proceeds that benefit Haymaker Chicago and Philly Anti-Repression Fund.
Our Voltage features exclusive music from Damaged Bug, UK Gold, Freak Genes, The Buzzards, The Myrmidons, and more. And this expanded re-issue includes exclusives by Girlsville favorites The Prissteens and The Maxines.
Here’s what people had to say about Various Artists: Our Voltage:
“Every single one of these tracks is a gem that must not be overlooked…Please trust me, this is probably the best, most creative compilation LP I’ve heard in years. Very highly recommended!” (JERSEY BEAT)
“This has gotta be the best label I’ve never heard of til now…John Dwyer (Castle Face Records, Thee Oh Sees) has his hand in at least one of these bands. Every track completely awesome.” (KZSU 90.1FM)
“…every band hits it perfectly. Even the covers of Siouxsie & The Banshees “Christine” (The Myrmidons) and Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?” (Atomic Suplex) manage to sound fresh. Nice.” (MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL)
“featuring major highlights from Freak Genes, Damaged Bug (a John Dwyer of the Oh Sees project, who isn’t shy about his love for this label), Bummers Eve, and the always awesome and legendary Mr. Airplane Man. I’ll be keeping an eye on this label, that’s for sure.” (RAZORCAKE)
As for John Dwyer’s contribution from his Damaged Bug project, Dwyer says his contribution was “inspired by King Crimson as far as the mellotron goes, and guitorgan pulling on the sleeve of Eddie Harris…a sci fi picture painted in these lyrics, a sort of post-technology wasteland where veterans of the last war are still fighting over things and ideas that don’t exist anymore in a semi hallucinatory state, unsure of what is reality anymore…”
