Today i’m gonna knock out the final round of introductions to each and every track on Various Artists: My Head Is Like A Radio Set.

Die Group are a trio from Los Angeles on one of our favorite labels, Sex Tape Records. They write punk hits in the Dangerhouse Records vein, and they do it really really well. Mitch Cardwell of Maximum Rocknroll said they make him “wanna break dance on broken glass and drink bleach. IT IS SO GOOD.” Angelyne the billboard queen says they are “like the Ramones but scarier.”

Die Group gave us a raw demo of a tune called “Moon Boy Got A Tooley”, a tune that found it’s way onto their Sex Tape Records debut LP, Disease Control.

Split Friction are from Falmouth, UK. They make a nice synth punk racket that is inspired by Fad Gadget, Nervous Gender, Tubeway Army, and the short stories of James Tiptree Jr. It’s all done by Mr. Charlie Murphy who you might know from Freak Genes or Internal Credit. The track contributed by Split Friction is called, “Speedway”.

Coachwhips were a San Francisco garage punk trio fronted by John Dwyer of Oh Sees. Girlsville released their collection of outtakes and demos entitled Night Train over the summer. This is actually one of my favorite demos, and it’s not one that found it’s way on to Night Train, it’s exclusive to this here comp and it’s called “That Bitch Is Gonna End Up Dead”.

The lyrics, however unintelligible, are about doing what you want with your life and not worrying what your parents say. Live your life for yourself, and don’t get caught up in what people think. This is basically just recorded on a boom box, and the drum sound is great. I’m not really sure why I excluded it from Night Train, but it’s my favorite of the demos that didn’t make the final cut.

Thee Thee’s and Ouija Boys are from Columbus, Ohio. They are really special and creative and hilarious people and I just love all of the bands they are in. Ian Graham is in both bands and in fact Ouija Boys is just him. It careens somwewhere between garagey bedroom punk and trashy synth punk. Thee Thee’s is Myra Power from Dischord Records band Slant 6, and Ian Graham and Jason. They remind me of a lo fi B-52’s meets 80’s Sonic Youth. It’s like fun party rock but also kinda bent and weird in a very good way. Thee Thee’s also have a new one on the excellent Killed by Meth #4.
