I’m a big fan of psych and without a doubt I will be adding LOVEBYRD to my summer playlists. So treat yourself to a kaleidoscope like mind vacation, give a listen to LOVEBYRD…..
Hi our name is
People say we sound like
Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Tame Impala, Tempels, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
We’ve heard a lot so far but everything’s quite charming.
Stefanie Krauth and Mark Wernet
We are from
Saarbrücken, South-West Germany
Who are some that have an influence on you?
The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Tame Impala, The Byrds and many more. Hard
to say. Nothing fancy as you see. We just love shoegaze, psych and dreampop sounds.
How old were all of you when you started to play and who plays what in the band?
Mark: I first picked up an instrument about ten years ago. It was a guitar and I really hated it
back then. Struggled for a while but in the end a really good thing that happend.
Steff: I started singing in elementary school. It was in a choir. I’d never stopped singing since
then. Each of us gathered experiences in music with different projects the last years. We
started LOVEBYRD in springtime 2014. The band is actually just the two of us. Though there
will be some friends with us on stage playing drums, base and guitar. Steff sings and is
playing some tambourine and I will play the guitar too.
Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through
getting the songs out?
Steff: We write the songs together. Usually Mark is bringing some melodies on guitar and I
am doing the first vocal idea. After that we built up all the other instruments and take a rough
mix to the studio for giving it the final touch.
What are some of the challenges you face as musicians and how have you overcome
Mark: As a two-piece it’s really hard to keep the money together sometimes. This keeps you
being good at improvising I guess.
If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what
year would it be?
Mark: 1967. Monterey Pop. Jimi Hendrix. Just that one hour.
Who are all of you currently listening to?
Mark: I’m listening to a lot of BadBadNotGood and especially the Sour Soul album with
Steff: There is a rather unknown pop band from France I’m currently listening to. I’m in love
with the spoken french lyrics à la Serge Gainsbourg and the french accent anyway.
If you could open for any Band right now, who would that be and why?
Steff: Pretty hard to pick out one band right now. At this point it would be great to open for
any band we reckon.
My youngest son is 13 and in a Band, what advice would you offer him?
Mark: Don’t waste no time on people who keep slowing you down. Friendship comes out of
the music not the other way round.
Our plans for 2015
Releasing the full length album, releasing the video for ’Shot From The Sun’ and playing
listen to their excellent EP….
