Ready for something to wipe away those isolation blues? Alright, well I’ve got you covered with a brilliant band from Montreal: Bambies. Three friends who make the kind of music to waste your days to, and with us all being stuck indoors for the foreseeable; there is nothing wrong with spending time listening to music and going off into your own world for a little bit.
There’s a number of bands I love that are from Canada, with the main one being The Gruesomes. If someone allowed me to, I’d happily talk about that band for hours and hours. I always look for music that gives me the same excitement they do, and as luck would have it- I’ve found it in another Canada based band, Bambies. Bambies make perfect Garage Rock music and they remind me a little bit of UK band VIRALS (Shaun Hencher fronted them) who are sadly no more, but Shaun now fronts TV Crime. What I’m getting at is, the vocals are quite similar and it’s nothing short of brilliant.
Bambies have released a couple of songs, and they released a DIY tape that was limited to only 50 copies and it’s just got this beautiful lo-fi feel to it, and this sound is apparent through all they’ve given us so far. They have this way of making you feel like you’re watching them demo these songs in their basement/rehearsal space and you’ve got the front seat to watching this band really blossom right in front of you. Their bio reads, “Hanging out at night, sleuthing the streets, that’s where you’ll find them. Loud music, adrenaline and getting their kicks, that’s what Bambies are about!” So, if that doesn’t lure you in, then I don’t know what will! You can really picture them roaming the streets with songs like Echo and Rocket USA being blasted out, with them getting up to no good.
Their debut EP came out shortly after on Reta Records, and this two-track delight is stunning. Sure, it’s only two songs, but they just make you again see what this band is made of. Just last December they released an insane cover of Rocket USA by easily one of the best bands ever, Suicide. It was a tribute release that was put out by Turkey’s finest- Kafadan Kontak Records (check them out because they are putting out some great stuff!)
There’s just so much to love and respect about their sound, and it does make you want to go make your own noise. You might as well, you’ve got the time! You can really hear their love for Garage Rock and Punk in their sound, and there’s such a beautiful passion that’s so evident in their sound. You just can’t get enough of it. I cannot wait to hear more from them!

With their impish sound, you cannot help but love them. I love how they remind you of the Dead Boys and Ramones in some of their songs, and I think it is clear in the song Blazing Bird. The vocals remind me a little of Stiv on this one, and the sound reminds me of the Ramones too. It’s perfect, they are really a great band and such a pleasure to listen to. If you’ve got a hankering for something to really blow your mind and give you some relief during these trying times, then Bambies are the band for you.
