Let’s just start by saying, what a pretty voice. You can make your own comparisons if you like but the voice is there to guide these songs along. The mandolin is a cool touch, makes the music stand out from the pack. And the folk part is just sweet. Just grab a cup of coffee, sit down, relax and enjoy the awesome vibes coming from The Feral Conservatives….
Hi our name is….
Feral Conservatives.
And our sound might be best described as….
We’ve been described as Sonic Youth meets the Cranberries. We listen to too much the Replacements.
We are…
Rashie Rosenfarb (vocals, mandolin, bass) and Matt Francis (drums, guitar)
We are originally from…..
Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The first time we met was…..
Playing rock and roll…in a church worship band. The church was lame though, so we went feral and formed our own indie rock group.
We knew we were going to be a Band when………
We wrote cool songs and then emailed a bunch of bars to give us a show. Eventually we got a show and not too many people showed up. But we kept writing, gigging, and updating our blog anyway.
Before starting the band we were employed as…….
Students. Rashie is a hairdresser and Matt does graphic design and freelance video. You can tell from our fancy gig flyers and cool haircuts.
The first song we wrote was…….
Rashie wrote a song called “Lies” on the mandolin before we were officially a band. It definitely took us in the current direction of introspective mandolin rock with a rootsy/indie feel.
It’s about……
The “Lies” are quite literally self-doubt and self-loathing. In a real dark sense, it can be depression, self harm and even suicidal thoughts. The lie is you’re not worth anything.
What we are currently listening to….
The new Against Me! record is great. The Sundays. Teenage Fanclub.
For fun we like to…..
We love to cook, watch Bob’s Burgers, travel, go to shows, and play with our cat.
The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us……
It sounds better after a few drinks. Breaks and Mends sums it up–it’s not just the low-points, the fractured spirits and scraped knees, but it’s the second chances, hope and renewal that helps us grow…maybe even succeed…maybe even make us better songwriters eventually.
Expect…..
We are back in the studio mid February to record a new single and b-side as a precursor to a new full-length coming later in 2014. New tour dates including Brooklyn, Philly, Charlottesville on the docket with more coming soon. Follow feralconservatives.com, our facebook or tumblr for all the latest.
